Young Thoughts
It is very nice to know
That I am made so neatly.
And that my little skin and bones
cover me completely.
For I should blush for very shame
If, when I was a-thinking
My skin and bones should come undone
and leave my mind a-blinking.
And all my wicked thoughts and feelings
Naked in the light
Oh! I'm extremely glad to feel
My fastenings are tight.
Notes by the author
This poem was written by Nan when still at College.
It appeals to me because it expresses quite beautifully, one of the feelings that youngsters experience as they develop into young adults.
The expression of a realisation of privacy of thought in terms of embarrassment, if such thought were exposed, is quite clever.
