Eclipse Overshadowed
On August the eleventh, ninety nine,
the sun and moon came into line,
with earth, which darkened for a time;
just long enough to write this rhyme.
Many people traveled at great expense,
some stayed in hotels, others in tents,
in order to witness this ‘event of events’.
Most found the clouds were just too dense.
The joy was eclipsed by a long, long wait.
They realised that they’d swallowed the bait.
They felt an anger that no one could placate.
All that money ill-spent for a time-wasting fete!

This eclipse became a non-event mainly because of the weather. However, it strikes me that marketing people will take any and every opportunity to hype any type of event in order to make money.
