Come Back
I wish I could resurrect myself
in a million or so years time.
By then, man may be sufficiently civilised
for life, but he has a long ladder to climb!
Don’t get me wrong, I am no snob,
who thinks he’s perfect or owt like that.
It’s just that so many people
fail the test of humanity; they're flat.
On their faces you may see smiles;
in their actions one can see pace.
But underneath it’s greed, and more greed
with little love or compassion or grace.

Some people think that the rise in materialism, the rise in population levels and the fall in religious belief or fear, are combining to change the character of the human experience.
I find it very difficult to write a poem about the topic without sounding like I am better than everyone else. In fact we all have a responsibility to consider the wider effects of each decision we take, yet are probably lacking the skills needed so to do!
