Body And Mind
My body has a mind of its own
and it doesn’t always concur with me!
For example, I may choose to make a speech;
and find my body’s gone knocky at the knee.
There is no easy way to communicate
between ones body and ones mind.
Talking is obviously not going to work;
so its to thinking that I'm resigned.
But thinking I’m not frightened
won’t work when a lion comes near;
it’s my body that knows I’m in danger
and it’s me that feels its fear.
Notes by the author
I wrote this poem after I had been considering the differences between thinking and feeling.
It seems to me that I am more of a thinking person than a feeling person. Maybe my sensitivities in these two areas are balanced but I do not, or cannot allow my feelings to be felt or expressed as much as I think I would like.
I cannot obtain much clarification on this issue from the many psychology or psychiatry handbooks which I have read.
